Monthly Competitions - Rules amendment
The WLGC committee has taken the step of withdrawing the rules put in place recently for the monthly competitions with regard to constituency of playing groups.
With immediate effect the monthly competitions can be played by a minimum of 2 ball groups with no restriction on family members. The usual rule about juniors playing groups having to have one adult in the group stands.
Some context.
There has been some history, recent and in the past, of members being unhappy with the application of the rules by some players during competitions and some doubt about some members abilities with simple arithmetic when putting a few simple numbers on a scorecard. Some might say this is a common theme around most golf clubs putting greens and hole 19's. The committee did not see it this way and were not prepared to allow idle gossip, Chinese whispers and general accusations to continue to filter around the golf club and eventually on social media. While all the apparent unhappiness seemed to prevail about the observance of rules, no-one was prepared to come forward and directly accuse any individuals. The committee in an effort to protect the majority of members from unfounded accusations or rumors without fact took the decision to enforce the rules on playing group make up to hopefully prevent further unrest about potential un-sportsman like play.
The committee have now decided upon reflection and the added difficulty these restrictions have placed on some members to actually get out there and just play competitive golf with trust and respect to retract the imposed rules and replace the onus on the individual members to play the game within the bounds of the etiquette and rules of the R&A as it should be.
It should be noted that the committee will deal with future infringements or suspected behavior likely to bring the game into disrepute with vigour as there is no place for non compliance of the rules in the sport.
