1. General Competition & Administration Rules

All Witney Lakes Golf Club competitions shall be played in accordance with the R&A Rules of Golf and Local Rules as displayed on the day of the competition or as covered on the course scorecard.

All competitors are required to play with golf equipment on the current R&A list of Conforming Golf Balls & Equipment.
PENALTY for breach of condition – disqualification.
-
Competitors will not be allowed to ride in motorized buggy carts unless permitted to do so by the Competition Committee.

Range finders are permitted in all Witney Lakes Golf Club competitions.
-
The decision to cancel a competition will be made by the Competition Committee prior to the day of the competition or on the day of the competition by the Witney Lakes Manager of the day under advice from the Golf Course Manager or his green keeping staff. Wherever possible the competition shall be rescheduled. Where time allows the original sign-up sheet shall be re-posted along with a second sheet to enable players not originally available the opportunity to enter the rescheduled competition.

Where possible competition cards will be issued for each competitor containing competitors name date and start time.

In stroke play the Competition Committee is responsible for the addition of scores and the application of the handicap recorded on the card.
-
In stablefords the Competition Committee is responsible for applying the handicap recorded on the card and determining the result of each hole and the overall points total.
-
In the event of a tie the result shall be decided on the count-back principal ie the best score over the last 18, 9, 6, 3 or 1 hole in that order unless a tie still results in which case the last 6, 3 or 1 hole of the first 9 holes shall count

All competition cards must be signed by the marker and the player.
PENALTY – disqualification of the player.

There must be a minimum entry of 10 individual players or 5 teams for a competition to go ahead. If as a result of insufficient entries a competition is cancelled all entry monies will be refunded.

Under no circumstances can anyone play in more than one competition during one round of golf.
-
All male competitions will be played off the white tees unless otherwise stated in the competition rules or the competition sign–up sheet.

Generally unless in a designated mixed competition male members must have their competition cards marked and signed by another male member
-
In male competitions no team can be entirely comprised of Juniors.
-
In male competitions Juniors must have a maximum of 18 handicap.
-
Any player or team failing to complete the specified round or competition may receive a ban from similar competitions.
-
All competition disputes will be settled by the Competition Committee.
2. Player’s Responsibility
-
The player is responsible for knowing the conditions under which the competition is to be played.
-
The player is responsible for recording their correct handicap on the scorecard before it is returned to the Competition Committee. If a player records a handicap lower that their correct handicap their score will be calculated off the lower handicap. If a player records a handicap higher than their correct handicap the player will be disqualified.
The player handicap list is regularly maintained by the Handicap Secretary and is prominently displayed on the club premises.

Players are responsible for recording the individual score for each hole only. Players are not responsible for adding total scores or calculating stableford points.

The player is responsible for ensuring that the marker has signed their card and returning it to the competition box, the Competition Committee or the duty committee member for the day
-
All competition scores are to be entered into the competition scoring system in the sports bar on completion of the round unless otherwise instructed.

Players are to book into the resort reception and report to the first or otherwise nominated tee at least 5 minutes before their allocated tee time. Any player or team arriving at the tee after a fellow playing competitor or partner has already played from the teeing ground BUT within 5 minutes of the stipulated tee time:
PENALTY – 2 strokes to be added to the score of the first hole.
Any player or team arriving more than 5 minutes late for their allocated tee time.
PENALTY – disqualification and consideration of a ban from similar competitions.
3. Entry Fee for Competitions

For all medal and boarded competitions players must enter their names onto the registration sheet or PSI terminal for that competition and the entry fee MUST be paid before the draw for the competition

If a roll up medal the players must enter their name onto the registration sheet or signed into the PSI terminal for that competition and pay the entry fee before commencing their round
PENALTY – Player will NOT be entered into the competition.

For all weekend stableford or stroke-play competitions the entry fee MUST be paid and the players name MUST be entered onto the competition registration sheet or signed into the PSI terminal before commencing your round.
PENALTY – disqualification.

For all other competitions follow the instructions on the sign-up sheet.
4. General Rules for Monthly Medals

Open to all male 7 day members
-
Format – 18 holes strokeplay
-
Handicap - full
-
Tees - white
-
To be played on the first Sunday of the month as determined by the Competition Committee.
-
Competition to be split into 2 divisions
Division split will be decided on result of analysis of numbers of entries
Trophies will be awarded to division winners
-
Entry fee to be paid no later than Thursday night as draw will be made on Friday morning.
-
If a roll-up medal player MUST enter their name onto the registration sheet OR sign into the PSI system, AND pay the entry fee BEFORE commencing their round
-
Any player withdrawing from the competition after the draw has been made will not be refunded their entry fee
-
Competition will be drawn in RANDOM order.
-
If a roll-up medal,

juniors with a maximum handicap of 18 can enter but one of the group must be an adult
-

On completion of the round the player is responsible for checking their own card for 2 signatures, the correct handicap, the correct scores for each hole, entry of scores into the scoring system, placing the card into the competition scores box.

The Competition Committee will decide if any action is to be taken against a player who:
Cancels after the draw is made;
Fails to turn up on the day;
Leaves the course before completion of the round.

Competition Committee decisions are final.
5. General Rules - Monthly Weekend Stablefords

Open to all male 7 day members
-
Format – 18 holes stableford
-
Handicap – full
-
Tees – white
-
Competition to be split into 2 divisions
Division split will be decided on result of analysis of numbers of entries
Trophies will be awarded to division winners.

Normally held over the penultimate weekend of every month
-
You may only enter the monthly weekend stableford once each month on either the Saturday or the Sunday
-
You MUST sign in on the PSI system OR register on the competition sheet AND pay the entry fee BEFORE commencing your round
-
You may play the round with whomever you want and at any time during the designated stableford weekend. Your playing partners do not have to be entered into the competition but one MUST be a WLGC member with an official Witney Lakes club handicap

juniors with a maximum handicap of 18 can enter but one of the group must be an adult

6. Aston and James Summer Knockout
-
Open to all male and female members
-
Format – 18 hole matchplay singles knockout
-
Handicap – strokes received the full difference
-
Once the draw is made it is the responsibility of BOTH players to organize the completion of the round in good time
Any requests for extensions to cut off dates will generally be refused. The Competition Committee MUST be informed of any disputes or issues with regard to completing matches at least 1 week before the cutoff date otherwise both players may be disqualified.

Any match that is all square after 18 holes will become a sudden death playoff commencing at the first hole with the appropriate strokes between handicaps being received as in normal play as described in 3 until a winner is determined.

Male vs male=white tees
Male vs female=male yellow, female red
Mixed sex matches played off men’s stroke index with NO courtesy shot for ladies
Female vs female=red

The final is to be played over 18 holes.
7. Edmunds Construction Summer League

Open to all male members
-
Format – pairs matchplay, four ball better ball

Tees - white

The amount of the entry fee will be announced on the sign-up sheet

Handicap – strokes received, 90% difference off the lowest handicap in the four ball
-
Competition played in group stages followed by a knockout stage.
-
Once the draw is made it is the responsibility of BOTH teams to organize the completion of the round in good time
Any requests for extensions to cut off dates will generally be refused. The Competition Committee MUST be informed of any disputes or issues with regard to completing matches at least 1 week before the cutoff date otherwise both teams may be disqualified.
-
If both players of the pair cannot agree or commit to a playing date with their opponents in a timely manner then the match must be played 2 on 1 before the end of the playing window for matches.
-
Each team will play the other teams within the group to determine their place within the group.
A match win=2 points
In the event of a points tied group the total of results scores will be used to determine the placing within the group
-
Group size, numbers of groups and numbers going forward from the group to the knockout stage will be decided by the Competition Committee according to the entry numbers at the time of the draw.

All matches in group and knockout stages must be played to a conclusion ie there can be no drawn matches.
-
Any match that is all square after 18 holes will become a sudden death playoff commencing at the first hole with the appropriate strokes between handicaps being received as in normal play as described in 5 until a winner is determined.

The final is to be played over 36 holes in the same day. In exceptional circumstances the committee will rule over any change.
8. Steve Hill Scratch

Open to all male 7 day members

Format – 18 hole matchplay singles knockout

Handicap – no strokes received.

Tees - white

The draw for the first round will be carried out by the Competition Committee and will be random.

Once the draw is made it is the responsibility of BOTH players to organize the completion of the round in good time
Any requests for extensions to cut off dates will generally be refused. The Competition Committee MUST be informed of any disputes or issues with regard to completing matches at least 1 week before the cutoff date otherwise both players may be disqualified.

Any match that is all square after 18 holes will become a sudden death play-off commencing at the first hole until a hole is won.
9. The Wilf Shirley Memorial

Open to all male 7 day members
-
Format - 18 hole Bowmaker in teams of three
All 3 team members play their own ball
Scoring as follows:
Holes 1 – 6; best 1 net medal score
Holes 7 – 12; best 2 net medal scores
Holes 13 – 18; all 3 net medal scores

In the event of a tie the countback method will be used
10. The Daily Mail Foursomes

Open to all male 7 day members
This is a qualifying competition for the Daily Mail competition that has a minimum age requirement of 18 therefore junior members will not be able to win qualification to the main national competition but may still enter the club competition

Format – 18 hole stroke play
Team members decide which will tee off the odd numbered holes and which will tee off on the even numbered holes
One ball is in play with team members taking alternate shots until the ball is holed

12. The Berkshire Bowl

Open to all male 7 day members

Qualification to this competition is gained by being classified in the top 32 of the designated monthly medal

Format – 18 hole matchplay singles knockout.

The draw is determined by finishing place in top 32 of the designated monthly medal in that;
1st vs 32nd
2nd vs 31st
3rd vs 30th …… and so on.

This is a qualifying competition for the Titleist Pairs competition, junior entrants are allowed but must play with a non-junior status player

Both players play their own ball with the best stableford score on each hole recorded

17. Texas Scramble

Format – 18 hole betterball strokeplay
All players play off each tee
Each team member must take 6 drives (tee shots)
Team decides which position of the first shots the next shots will be played from
Each player then takes their next shot from that position placing their ball no more than 6 inches from the original ball’s position until a ball is holed
On the green a marker should be placed beside the ball to allow the other team members to place their ball as close as possible to the original ball position
On the green if a player ‘taps in’ before the others have putted that score is recorded.

In the case of a tie in gross scores between 2 or more players after 36 holes there will be a 4 hole play off over holes 1, 2, 8 & 9 with the player recording the lowest gross score over these 4 holes being determined the winner. If the gross score is still tied the match becomes sudden death over the same 4 hole loop with the last man standing being the winner.

In the case of tie in the Nett and Challenge Shield scores the winner will be determined by use of the countback rule.

In the event of adverse weather the competition can be reduced to 18 holes

Teams consist of pairs of one male and one female
Team members decide which will tee off the odd numbered holes and which will tee off on the even numbered holes

Format – Greensomes pairs 18 hole stroke play.Pairs must be made up of a mix of two from the following

Both players in the pair tee off
Both players decide which of the drives to select for the next shot
If players A’s drive, then player B plays the next shot
It is then alternate shots with that ball until the ball is holed

Handicap – half the combined exact full handicap
Match played off men’s stroke index with ladies receiving 1 courtesy shot
Please note that ladies must add their courtesy shot to their own handicap before combining the pair’s total to determine the actual handicap allowance.

22. Bob Marchbank Autumn Classic

NOTE: as a Winter competition, it is important to realise that for most of the competition playing period there are only weekends available for many 7 day members to complete matches, it is therefore imperative that playing pairs are available to play matches on both days of the majority of weekends. It is not acceptable for one of the playing pair to be regularly unavailable for only 50% of the available playing days.
