Captain's Drive In - a message from the mens Captain
On Sunday 15th the Captains drive in was held, the format was team stableford with 4 members per team. Points were scored as per normal stableford with a little twist, one member scored on par 5’s,two on par 4’s and three on par 3’s.
On driving to the course and with a constant eye on the weather (with winds forecast for 40 mph and my car being buffeted) I was not confident of a full turnout. How wrong was I!!! I was absolutely astounded to see the turnout a tremendous effort was made by the members and I would like to say a massive thank you to those who took part in what was indeed a challenging day to play golf.
The day was a mixture of serious golf and fun with prizes to be won for the winners, and nearest the pins on offer on the par 3’s with a raffle held after the presentations. Thank you to all those who donated a raffle prize it was much appreciated.
I must say a massive thanks to the Ladies Captain Sue Lansdell, who kept me organised and did a stirling job helping the day go as smoothly as possible, she also outplayed me on the golf course on several holes especially with a magnificent shot on the 12th securing her a nearest the pin prize. Thank you Sue.
Before the presentations were made, myself and Sue had to perform the now traditional drive-in down the first with members trying to guess where our drives would end up. For some unknown reason many of the male members seemed to think I would go right!!!! Sadly for those members my drive went left over the gorse bush and settled nicely just over the bank, not my usual shot I must admit.
So on to the winners, the winning team comprised of James Bason, Bryn Skrine, Martin Jones and Gary Eastaff who won on count back with a score of 84 Just managing to pip Tony Holliday's team.
The amount raised over the day was £551.21 and this will be split between the two charites chosen by the captains, namely Thames Valley Air Ambulance and First Responders.
Once again I thank you all for your generosity and look forward to a successful season on and of the golf course.
Andy
